Legal Fees and Charges

There are several different models which are used to determine the legal fees charged by lawyers. At von Doussas we usually apply the traditional time-based model, but are prepared to offer fixed fee or no win, no fee arrangements in many cases.

Time based model

Under the traditional time-based model law firms charge for every six-minute unit of time that they work on your matter. We usually work on the same basis, but are very conscious of the need to move towards more innovative billing models. When billing on the time based model our hourly rates for lawyers start at at $375 per hour (plus GST) and go through to around $495 (plus GST) depending on a number of criteria, such as the seniority of the lawyer, the type of work being performed, the urgency with which the work must be performed and the ability of the client to pay fees in advance.

Fixed Fee

We can offer fixed fee arrangements in some matters within the following categories: wills, estates, conveyancing, document drafting, divorce and property settlement, guilty pleas in criminal and road traffic matters. We may be able to offer a fixed fee arrangement on request in other matters too. Please ask.

No Win, No Fee

If you have a case but can’t pay for a lawyer, we may be able to offer you our services under a no win, no fee arrangement. No win, no fee arrangements are usually available in personal injury cases and inheritance disputes, but we may be able to offer them in certain other cases too.
